International Synth Day Live Stream May 22 2019

Live Stream In Conjunction with Fault Radio!:

May 23rd, 2019, Robert Moog’s birthday, will mark the third synthesizer day worldwide. Fault Radio is participating in Synth City - International Synthesizer Day 2019 together with other global radio stations like Red Light Radio, Worldwide FM, Departamento and many more to celebrate this day with a special broadcast: A 24H audio/video cosmic celebration of live music events and radio broadcasts from different locations around the globe.

For all you Bay Areas! Join us on this day as we peek into the mind of American engineer, musician, and founder of the synthesizer company Sequential, Dave Smith. To help out with interviewing and exploring the mind of this electronic music pioneer we are enlisting the help of San Francisco based sound artits, Ose, followed by a private performance by Carson Day from Sequential’s office. We will close the day with an after-celebration at Robotspeak featuring live performances by M.0, Musicalfungus, and Roy Shade.

We encourage you to check out what other stations have prepared for you! Participating this year >> 8K.NZ - Independent Radio from New Zealand // Skylab Radio // Fauve Radio from Hong Kong // boxout.fm from India // Kiosk Radio from Brussels // Noh Radio /w Zozo from Istanbul // Cannibalradio.com from Athens // Red Light Radio from Amsterdam // Dekmantel from Amsterdam // Worldwide FM from London // TEDER.FM from Tel Aviv // Departamento from Mexico City.

Subtractive Synthesis through the Roland SH101/SH01a May 03 2019

This class happens at 11AM on Sunday July 28th 2019.

It will be in the shop and will run about 3 hours and cost $100

We are revisiting our Analog Synthesis class for the second time in 2019.  This at its core, is a class in Subtractive Synthesis that uses the SH101 (in this case the ROLAND Analog Modeling SH01A boutique module) to offer a bit of hands on while the instructor is talking about what is in the class description.

We have done very few classes in the last 3 years. This SH01A installment will be 2nd one in 2019. The original Subtractive Synthesis class we did was similar to this except we were using a Korg MS 20 Mini as our hands on device so the students could follow along with what was being covered. The MS 20 Mini was current at the time but the gist of the topic at hand like what is covered in this installment, was Subtractive Synthesis.

The last class went well and we will be offering classes more often. Breaking down the shop to make way for the attendees and some other elements have caused this lapse in what was for years, a frequently updated and rotating class schedule. This is the price of having a small shop and too much gear setup-breaking it down for the class.
We are not complaining-the gear is why we do this in the first place.
To all of you who have been asking about the classes and received little or no useful information--sorry about that!
We know that these classes are the most requested.
Introduction to Modular Synthesis
Modular Synthesis
Analog Synthesis: The next level

The class is coming up at 11AM on Sunday July 28th 2019.

It will be in the shop and will run about 3 hours and cost $100

Instructor Alex Rudis (who has taught our both our Modular and Analog Synthesis class in the past) will be the instructor. LX knows more synthesis related theory/facts both technical, obscure and history wise than anyone I know. You may have seen him perform here during our Church of the Super Serge live show or maybe attended one of his classes in the past.

Thank You!

The SH-01A is a meticulous reproduction of Roland’s SH-101,
one of the most popular analog synthesizers ever made.
The new SH-01A has several unique features that go beyond the capabilities of the original SH-101: it is 4 voice polyphonic, its memory can store 64 of your favorite sounds and it has several updated performance features that make it a bit more flexible in live performance than the SH-101.
The SH-101 can be heard on many hits from the 80s, and continues to be a sought-after instrument to this day.  Its straightforward design is great for learning synthesis, and is also extremely fast and intuitive in use. Sound creation and performance techniques learned on the SH101 [SH-01A] are easily applied on other analog synthesizers.
In this class, we’ll use the SH-01A as a learning tool to study the ‘building blocks’ of subtractive synthesis and we will learn how to combine these elements to create our own unique sounds.  We’ll briefly go over the history of analog synthesizers and subtractive synthesis.  We’ll also do a bit of hands-on work, practicing techniques used to develop original sounds or create a sound similar to another instrument.
The modules (and features) of the SH-01a that we will cover in class include:
Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO)
  sawtooth waveform
  variable width pulse waveform
  sub-octave waveforms
VCO MODULATION
   frequency modulation
   pulse width modulation [pulse only]

Alive concert at ROBOTSPEAk: The PRO One VS. The PRO 2 Date: 9.6.2014 from 6PM till? August 31 2014

In conjunction with the September Lower Haight Art Walk

Please join us for this free electronic music event when Jonah Sharp (AKA Spacetime Continuum) and Carson Day have an all out synched to clock fight for supremacy that just may push us to the verge of extinction.

They will be armed with two Synth monsters from different ERA's:

-Jonah Sharp with his Analog Beast the olde school Sequential Circuit's PRO One

-Carson Day with its distant hybrid relative and latest from Dave Smith, the PRO 2--abusing it like no one on this planet can !

This will be a bloodbath minus the blood and dismemberment... so, what does this leave then?

Just a bunch of great music being improvised whilst the accompanying drum machines and synthesizers grapple for the upper echelons of sonic perfection, attempting to avoid the possibility of even the slightest hint of wrongness.

The Church of the Super Serge-Free Monthly Modular Synthesizer Performance April 01 2014

Back in late 2012 we started the Church of the Super Serge at ROBOTSPEAk. The Church was at first a workshop in which people could attend and build their very own Serge Modulars --right in ROBOTSPEAk! Each month students could come in and complete another part of their panel. This workshop was wrangled into existence by Dimitri Ponce who has since gone on to build Serge Modulars for a living (www.COA-MODULAR.com). The Church was and is a homage to Serge Tcherepnin who back in the day, built his amazing Modular synthesizers about 100 feet from ROBOTSPEAk!!  Over time the Church morphed into into a free monthly Modular Synthesizer performance heavily featuring on Serge Modulars and recently some monsterous eurorack systems.
This is an ongoing free modular synth event that happens on every 3rd Saturday at either 2 or 3PM. Check out ROBOTSPEAk on Facebook (I know) for performers and exact time.
